Dolores Huerta understood that real change begins Dolores Huerta understood that real change begins with people coming together and refusing to be ignored. Her work alongside farmworkers and families changed our country, but what has always stayed with me is how she made people believe in their own power to make a difference. Of all my memories working alongside her, I’ll never forget her bravery at the border. I joined her in an action to protect humane treatment of migrants and to call out the human rights abuses being perpetrated by our own government. Standing at her side, I knew change was possible - we just couldn’t back down. I am heartbroken by her loss and deeply grateful for all she gave to our communities. Dolores reminded us that every voice matters, every person has something to contribute, and even the hardest fights are worth taking on. Sí, se puede. Always.
For more than 4 decades, Patti Giggans has been a For more than 4 decades, Patti Giggans has been a powerful voice for survivors, for advocates, and for women. At the helm of Peace Over Violence, she has worked tirelessly to advocate against gender-based violence. She created Denim Day, and helped grow it into an international movement. She served for a decade on the Citizen Oversight Commission, and has helped lead LA County into the public health approach that we know works better. She is a force. Now, as we honor her for her incredible career, we pledge to carry forward the torch she has lit for so many of us.
Filling sandbags isn't always simple. For seniors Filling sandbags isn't always simple. For seniors and people with mobility issues who face flood risks, the need doesn't disappear—so LA County made it happen. @Lacopublicworks, @lacountyfd and my office distributed pre-filled sandbags in Malibu, because everyone should be able to access the tools we have to get their home prepared. Thanks for joining us, Malibu!
The Super Scoopers are an important part of our fi The Super Scoopers are an important part of our fire fighting response -- these two planes dropped more than 9 thousand gallons of water on the Bryson Fire last week. Alongside our @LAcountyFD helicopters, more than 157,000 gallons were used to contain the wildfire. In LA County, we're grateful to partner with the government of Quebec, who provides these planes.

I saw it at the AIDS Walk last weekend, and I see it in the care these non-profits provide every day: our community will never stop fighting for an end to HIV/AIDS.

For older adults, it can be hard to shovel, fill up and load sandbags without help. We're making sure that doesn't keep anyone from getting prepared. Staff will be onsite to load sandbags into cars. Just drive up, get your sandbags, and get ready for rain. ☔

Los Angeles County’s Third District covers 446.08 square miles and stretches from the Ventura County line to Santa Monica and Hollywood to Sylmar and the City of San Fernando. Home to over 2 million people, the Third District includes portions of 10 cities, 26 unincorporated communities, and 49 neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles.

The District is home to countless cultural landmarks, including the Getty Center and the Santa Monica Pier. It encompasses most of the Santa Monica Mountains and the San Fernando Valley. Its communities are diverse, vibrant, and are what make the Third District so special.
