Building a transportation infrastructure that connects our region and serves the people who need it most

We need to build out our regional transportation network and make good on the promises of Measures R and M. It’s essential that those dollars are quickly invested in the infrastructure needed to help people navigate the County on a daily basis – to jobs, healthcare centers, and essential services – as well as for travel, tourism, and events. We need to increase presence and support on the system to ensure people are comfortable and safe.

The Sepulveda Pass and Crenshaw Northern Extension projects are critical to the Third District, connecting communities which have been intentionally divided by redlining and discriminatory policies. Ensuring safe, equitable access to transit is essential.
As a Metro Board Member, Supervisor Horvath has committed herself to riding Metro frequently to best understand its challenges, and how we solve them by increasing safety, frequency, and reliability.

She is eager to be at the table to ensure we continue to increase ridership by eliminating barriers – both physical and financial – and ensuring the comfort of riders throughout the system.

Metro Projects in the Third

Metro is building out a regional transportation network. Major projects in the Third District will connect our communities to the region.

  • Metro’s plan for better transit includes more rail service in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Project will improve connections and access to key destinations while connecting transit users to the growing network in the San Fernando Valley.
  • This transit project will use the same rail technology as Metro’s A, C, E and L Lines adding 14 new stations between the G Line (Orange) Van Nuys Station and the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink Station. This system for the Valley means better transit with improved quality and service along Van Nuys Bl.
  • The voter approved Measure M put forward a plan to help Angelenos cross the natural barrier created by the Santa Monica Mountains that has made traveling between the Valley and the Westside challenging and separated these communities for far too long.
  • The Project is anticipated to begin service in 2033-2035 and has the potential to improve mobility, promote equity, bolster economic activity and create a healthier more sustainable Los Angeles. Read more here.
  • The Metro K Line Northern Extension would connect three major rail lines and numerous bus lines.
  • The Crenshaw Northern Extension project would fill a major gap in the Metro Rail network and create opportunities by connecting the Crenshaw District, Mid-City, West Hollywood, and Hollywood.
  • Metro has a plan to make it easier to get around by expanding our rail system to the Westside with the Purple (D Line) Extension Transit Project. This critical, highly anticipated new addition to Metro’s network will add seven new stations and a reliable, high-speed connection between downtown and the Westside.
  • As one of LA’s busiest areas, the Westside is the region’s second-largest job center. With the Metro Purple (D Line) Extension Transit Project, we are closer than ever to connecting busy areas and improving travel for everyone who lives, works and plays in LA County.
  • The voter approved Measure M put forward a plan to make it easier for Angelenos to get around the San Fernando Valley by upgrading the Orange Line (G Line) with grade separations, signal improvements, new gating systems, and better connectivity to other transit options between Chatsworth and the North Hollywood Red Line (B Line) station.
  • Major construction is expected to begin in 2024 and the completion of these improvements will provide an enhanced experience for Metro rider looking to cross the Valley and connect to Downtown Los Angeles. Read more here.
