STATEMENT FROM SUPERVISOR HORVATH ON THE FATAL METRO BUS AND NEWS HELICOPTER CRASHES IN CHATSWORTH

September 16, 2026

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath issued the following statement regarding the fatal Metro bus and news helicopter crashes in Chatsworth.

“This is a devastating moment for Chatsworth and for all of Los Angeles.

My heart is first and foremost with the victims’ families, with the loved ones, with those who were injured, and with everyone whose life changed by what happened here.

I want to acknowledge just how many people are carrying this tragedy: the riders who were on that bus; the Metro operator and our bus operators across the system who mourn; the people who witnessed what happened; our first responders who arrived and cared for people in their most vulnerable moments; and members of our local news community, who came here to do their jobs and experienced a profound tragedy of their own.

This has been deeply traumatic for far too many people. We need to recognize that trauma, and we need to make sure the people who need support in the days ahead receive it.

I especially want to thank our first responders. We are deeply grateful for your service and for all that they hold as they care for those who are suffering these unimaginable tragedies.

There are serious questions about what happened. We share a commitment with our City partners, with our partners at Metro, federal agencies and our public safety agencies to fully understand what happened.

That means a thorough investigation. Following the facts and working hard, hand in hand with everyone involved to ensure that families and everyone involved receive justice.

To everyone grieving, recovering, or processing what they experienced: we are here for you and we stand with you. And we will be with you in the days ahead.”

Last night, Supervisor Horvath was on the ground in Chatsworth with public safety and City officials to understand all that occurred and to offer support.
