PRIORITIES

transportation & metro

Building a transit system that connects communities and delivers for the entire LA County region.

LA County voters supported a bold vision: a transformative transit network that gets people where they need to go—whether it’s work, healthcare, school, or travel and tourism.

The Third District is at the center of this momentum. The North San Fernando Valley Transit Corridor will finally make east-west travel across the Valley faster and more reliable. The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail and Sepulveda Transit Corridor will connect communities long disconnected lengthy commute times and the Santa Monica Mountains. And the K Line Northern Extension will anchor the system—linking the South Bay, LAX, Mid-City, West Hollywood, and Hollywood.

As a Metro Board Member, Supervisor Lindsey Horvath is paving the way for safer stations, more reliable service, and investment where it’s needed most.

Metro Projects in the Third

Metro is building out a regional transportation network. Major projects in the Third District will connect our communities to the region.

  • Metro’s plan for better transit includes more rail service in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. The East San Fernando Valley (ESFV) Light Rail Project will improve connections and access to key destinations while connecting transit users to the growing network in the San Fernando Valley.
  • This transit project will use the same rail technology as Metro’s A, C, E and K Lines adding 11 new stations between the G Line (Orange) Van Nuys Station and the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink Station. This system for the Valley means better transit with improved quality and service along Van Nuys Bl.
  • The voter approved Measure M put forward a plan to help Angelenos cross the natural barrier created by the Santa Monica Mountains that has made traveling between the Valley and the Westside challenging and separated these communities for far too long.
  • As one of the highest potential ridership lines in the Metro system, the Project has the potential to improve mobility, promote equity, bolster economic activity and create a healthier more sustainable Los Angeles. Read more here.
  • The Metro K Line Northern Extension would connect three major rail lines and numerous bus lines.
  • The project would fill a major gap in the Metro Rail network and create opportunities by connecting the Crenshaw District, Mid-City, West Hollywood, and Hollywood, and could be one of the highest ridership of any light rail lines in the country with almost 100,000 daily riders, 65 percent of whom would be low-income, serving approximately 325,000 residents, nearly 250,000 workers, 770 regional destinations, and 80,000 zero-to-one car households.
  • Read the K Line Northern Extension’s Economic Impact Report compiled by the LA Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC).
  • Metro has a plan to make it easier to get around by expanding our rail system to the Westside with the Purple (D Line) Extension Transit Project. Section 2 (2026) and Section 3 (2027) will add 4 new stations and a reliable, high-speed connection between downtown and the Westside.
  • As one of LA’s busiest areas, the Westside is the region’s second-largest job center. With the Metro Purple (D Line) Extension Transit Project, we are closer than ever to connecting busy areas and improving travel for everyone who lives, works and plays in LA County.
  • The voter approved Measure M put forward a plan to make it easier for Angelenos to get around the San Fernando Valley by upgrading G Line with grade separations, signal improvements, new gating systems, and better connectivity to other transit options between Chatsworth and the North Hollywood Red Line (B Line) station. These improvements will enhance safety along the 18-mile G Line between North Hollywood and Chatsworth, increase reliability and reduce average end-to-end bus travel times by 12-16 minutes.
  • Major construction began in 2025 and the completion of these improvements will provide an enhanced experience for the millions of Angelenos who use bus or rail to travel to work and school across the Valley and connect to Downtown Los Angeles. Read more here.
