CHAIR HORVATH RESPONDS TO CLOSURE OF TOPANGA CANYON BLVD

April 12, 2024

Los Angeles, CATopanga Canyon Blvd (TCB) was closed in early March in the aftermath of a massive landslide that is ongoing and continues to block a segment of this important roadway, making it unsafe for CalTrans staff and equipment to work on site.

After touring this damage myself, I understand the critical need to reopen this road as soon as the active slide ends and we are able to safely send in repair crews. Our office has been working closely with our Topanga community to identify how the County can provide support for residents and businesses who are affected during this emergency.

On Thursday, CalTrans responded to our office and the community’s urgent requests to put a temporary traffic signal in place at the Tuna-PCH intersection to aide drivers in exiting the canyon while TCB is closed.

Our mountain roads are fragile infrastructure that exist at the whims of Mother Nature, and working within that reality remains a challenge throughout our Santa Monica Mountains. I am committed to working with CalTrans to ensure that this arterial stretch is cleared as soon as safely possible so that our communities can return to normal daily life.
