CHAIR HORVATH VISITS TOPANGA CANYON BLVD. CLOSURE SITE WITH STATE LEADERS

April 20, 2024

Los Angeles, CA – This morning, Lindsey P. Horvath, Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, joined Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) Secretary Toks Omishakin, and CalTrans District 7 Director Gloria Roberts at the Topanga Canyon Blvd. debris slide.

Chair Horvath released this video from the site and shares this statement:

“Reopening Topanga Canyon Blvd. safely and swiftly is an urgent priority. Today, I visited the closure area with Assemblymember Irwin and our state transportation partners. We saw firsthand the conditions of the mountainside and the challenges given permeating water, vegetation, and soil conditions. CalTrans contractors shared with us the steps that need to be taken to stabilize the slide, remove material in the roadway, and reopen this essential access point.

I urged that we move as quickly as possibly while keeping crews safe. And that we do this urgently now while also planning for the future given the reality of our ever-changing climate. We share a commitment to bring in the best experts and to weekly coordination with the goal of accelerating a safe reopening.

The Topanga community deserves to have their community reconnected. I will continue to work with Caltrans and our state leaders to get the job done.”
