Board Unanimously Ratifies Local Emergency For LA County Wildfires
January 14th, 2025
LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires, including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. These measures come at a pivotal moment as the County confronts an unprecedented natural disaster and the widespread destruction, mass displacement, and hazardous conditions that have impacted thousands of residents.
“These devastating wildfires have upended lives and dreams, shattered businesses, destroyed iconic landmarks and community gathering places, and disrupted the very fabric of our communities,” said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, Third District. “By ratifying a local emergency, the County can mobilize the resources, coordination, and support needed to help our residents recover and rebuild. The County stands strong in its commitment to protect lives and support our communities every step of the way, including my Third District unincorporated communities of Topanga Canyon, Monte Nido, and Sunset Mesa, as well as Big Rock, Las Flores/Rambula, Rambula Vista, Pacifico within Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Brentwood, Mandeville Canyon, Sylmar, West Hills, Granada Hills, Sepulveda Basin, Studio City, Hollywood Hills, Hidden Hills, Calabasas, Tarzana, Hollywood, and Encino.”
“Today’s action reinforces that our County stands ready to help our residents quickly and effectively rebuild our wildfire-impacted communities,” Chair Kathryn Barger said. “We will use every resource to ensure our residents can access the support they need and deserve. We’ll be here every step of the way to set residents up for success so they emerge on the other side of this devastation with hope and a helping hand.”
