COASTAL COMMISSION STAFF APPROVE SUP. HORVATH'S REQUEST FOR TOW AWAY SIGNS ON PCH
October 10, 2024
Los Angeles, CA – California Coastal Commission staff have agreed with Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath’s request to update parking restrictions along the unincorporated portion of PCH near the community of Sunset Mesa. The new signs strengthen parking regulations, allowing for vehicles to be towed that violate posted signage restricting parking from 12 – 2 a.m. and 2 – 4 a.m.
This action comes as an increasing number of Recreational Vehicles (RVs) park overnight along PCH, increasing fire, public health, and roadway safety risks. On September 24, Supervisor Horvath authored an unanimously supported motion calling for the State’s partnership to address the issue immediately through the new signs while pursuing alignment with parking regulations in nearby Malibu and Pacific Palisades.
“Fire and safety risks along PCH are real and very serious. By strengthening parking regulations, we are taking a necessary step to protect the safety of the public and the environment while also allowing for beach access,” said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath. “I’m grateful for the Coastal Commission’s support, and for the ongoing partnership of the Sheriff’s Department-Lost Hills Station, Caltrans, and the California Highway Patrol. All are taking action to address this longtime safety issue.”
With Coastal Commission approval, LA County Public Works will install 26 new signs. This will give the Sheriff’s Department and CHP an important enforcement tool.
