SUPERVISOR HORVATH ANNOUNCES LANDLORD NOTIFICATION FORMS NOW AVAILABLE FOR TENANTS SEEKING FIRE EVICTION PROTECTIONS

March 4th, 2025

LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath announced that tenants impacted by the January 2025 wildfires can now access sample notification forms made available by the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs. These sample forms will help tenants access eviction protections recently passed by the Board of Supervisors. Protections apply countywide, including all 88 cities and unincorporated areas, and provide relief to those facing financial hardship due to the fires.

“These notification forms make it easier for tenants impacted by the wildfires to access the eviction protections we passed across LA County—without unnecessary barriers,” said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath. “By keeping this process simple and accessible, tenants will have the time and stability needed to recover. LA County is committed to a just recovery and will continue working to keep people in their homes and communities.”

The eviction protections, effective through July 31, 2025, are designed to prevent displacement while individuals and families recover from the economic impacts of the wildfires. Eligible tenants can choose to use this sample notification form to give notice to their landlord that they are experiencing financial hardship due to the wildfires. Giving notice to landlords is required to secure these eviction protections for workers impacted by the wildfires.

Important Deadlines:

  • Tenants looking to use this protection for the month of February can do so retroactively, but must give notice to their landlord by tomorrow, Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
  • For a tenant looking to use this protection for March, notification must be made by Friday, March 7, 2025.

Key Eviction Protections for Impacted Tenants:

  • Protection from eviction for nonpayment of rent due to financial hardship caused by the January wildfires.
  • Relief funds for unpaid rent will be directed to property owners on behalf of tenants.
  • A six-month eviction protection period ending July 31, 2025.

The notification forms and additional resources, including FAQs, are available at rent.lacounty.gov.
