SUP. HORVATH JOINS NATIONAL ICLEI USA BOARD AND GLOBAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
April 30th, 2026
LOS ANGELES, CA — To close out Earth Month, Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath announced her appointment to the Board of Directors of ICLEI USA and the Global Executive Committee of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, advancing Los Angeles County’s national and global climate leadership.
Following the Trump Administration’s retreat from dozens of international environmental treaties, Supervisor Horvath’s appointment is strengthening LA County’s role in advancing climate solutions at both the national and global level. As a member of ICLEI’s Global Executive Committee, she will elevate Los Angeles County priorities directly to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and other international treaties – presenting a key American voice despite the Federal government’s absence.
“Serving in leadership for ICLEI demonstrates how Los Angeles County shows up where it matters, especially when our federal partners are failing to protect us,” said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath. “Local governments are on the front lines of climate action. By partnering with leaders around the world, we can strengthen and scale how we respond to the climate crisis, and deliver meaningful impact for our planet.”
“We are honored to welcome Supervisor Lindsey Horvath to the ICLEI USA Board of Directors,” said Saharnaz Mirzazad, ICLEI USA CEO. “Supervisor Horvath has demonstrated, time and again, that bold leadership at the local level is how real change happens — from her unwavering commitment to sustainability and climate resilience to her tireless work rebuilding communities in the wake of the devastating LA County wildfires. At a moment when local governments are being asked to do more with less, the power of partnership has never mattered more.”
Los Angeles County’s nationally recognized strategies, including the OurCounty Sustainability Plan and 2045 Climate Action Plan, set the nation’s largest county on track to meeting the goals of the landmark Paris Climate Agreement. This was affirmed by a recent report by the County’s Chief Sustainability Officer in response to Supervisor Horvath’s January 2026 motion.
“The County of Los Angeles has a long history of sustainability and climate leadership and remains committed to local action that, when combined with national and global efforts, will help ensure safe and thriving communities in the face of a changing climate,” said Rita Kampalath, Los Angeles County Chief Sustainability Officer. “The County remains ‘All In’ and aligned with the Paris Agreement, and we look forward to further partnering with others around the nation and world to bring this work to life.”
Supervisor Horvath has prioritized climate resilience, environmental health, and sustainable infrastructure across Los Angeles County, including efforts to expand clean energy, enhance sustainable transportation, safeguard water resources, and prepare communities for the impacts of climate change.
