SUPERVISOR HORVATH RESPONDS TO COURT ORDER REQUIRING TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO CONTINUE FOOD STAMP PAYMENTS

October 31st, 2025

LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath responded to a federal court decision ordering the Trump Administration to continue paying food stamp benefits during the ongoing government shutdown. The ruling directs the administration to immediately distribute Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds, averting an imminent crisis for roughly 42 million Americans — including nearly 1.5 million residents in Los Angeles County — who rely on CalFresh to feed their families. Supervisor Horvath is demanding that the federal government release SNAP benefits immediately — without excuses or delays — so families can put food on the table now, not later. Los Angeles County stands ready to assist in getting these critical benefits into the hands of those who need them most.

Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath shared:

“Today’s ruling is a welcome relief for the nearly 1.5 million Angelenos who rely on CalFresh benefits to feed their families.

For the past week, parents, seniors and older adults, and working families have lived in fear that they wouldn’t have enough to eat — all because the Trump Administration chose to play political games with food.

Let’s be clear: this was never about budgeting or bureaucracy. In fact, there’s federal policy to ensure coverage in the event of a shutdown. This was about using food as leverage, and that’s disturbing, disgusting, and completely unacceptable.

While President Trump played politics, Los Angeles County stepped up. We expanded food distribution, partnered with local organizations, and prepared to ensure no one in our communities would go hungry.

This ruling ensures families will get the help they need and deserve — but we should never have been in this position. No one should have to wonder where their next meal will come from because of the immoral actions of the Trump Administration.”
