LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath shares the following statement regarding LAHSA’s release of the 2026 Homeless Count results:

“The Point-in-Time Count is one data point—not the whole picture. Housing production, affordability, and supportive services are the biggest drivers of lasting change, and getting people housed–permanently—is the change LA needs.

That’s why I’ve been focused on fundamentally changing how the County responds to homelessness through our new Department of Homeless Services and Housing as well as the Emergency Centralized Response Center. We need to be honest about what’s working, stop funding what isn’t, strengthen prevention so fewer people become homeless in the first place, and hold ourselves accountable for every taxpayer dollar we spend.

People experiencing homelessness—and the communities impacted by this crisis— care less about esoteric debates over the numbers. They care more about what they see on our streets —whether people are getting into housing, accessing the care they need, and being accountable for how their tax dollars are being spent. That’s where my focus will continue to be, today and everyday.”
