BOARD OF SUPERVISORS APPROVE PLANS FOR $147 MILLION IN SAFE, CLEAN WATER INFRASTRUCTURE

October 23, 2024

Los Angeles, CAAt yesterday’s meeting on October 22, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved the allocation of $147 million in Safe, Clean Water Program funds for 137 multi-benefit stormwater projects and programs across LA County. The funding will be distributed across nine watershed areas and 52 municipalities to enhance water quality, water supply, and flood control while greening local communities.

“Through the Safe Clean Water Program, LA County is investing in long-term water security for all of our communities,” said Chair Horvath. “These investments will create capacity for more than 19.7 billion gallons of additional stormwater capture a year—enough to supply the annual demand for 483,000 people. LA County is fully committed to a sustainable and resilient future for our region.”

Chair Horvath teamed up with Dodgers General Manager Dave Roberts on a series of PSAs to talk about LA County’s water supply, and the actions the public can take to conserve water.

Each year, the Board of Supervisors is presented with a recommended list of Safe Clean Water Program stormwater investment plans from the region’s nine watershed planning areas. This year’s list included 13 new infrastructure projects, four technical resources programs, and 10 scientific studies—all designed to improve stormwater capture and provide much-needed community and environmental benefits. Along with other leveraged funds, this release of new Safe Clean Water funding represents over $1.6 billion in regional investments into multi-benefit green stormwater infrastructure.

Last December, the Board of Supervisors adopted the LA County Water Plan, which will achieve 80% local water supply for the County by 2045, with many projects funded by the Safe Clean Water Program.
