LA COUNTY REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO REGIONAL CONTINUUM OF CARE
July 21, 2026
LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors received an update on Los Angeles County’s implementation of recommendations from the Blue Ribbon Commission on Climate Action and Fire Safe Recovery, highlighting significant progress made to strengthen long-term recovery following the January 2025 wildfires.
The implementation report, requested through a February 2026 motion by Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, outlines actions completed and underway across County government to advance the Commission’s recommendations. Among the most significant accomplishments are the establishment of the Disaster Recovery Rebuild Authority to coordinate long-term recovery, the creation of Disaster Recovery Financing Districts to help finance rebuilding critical infrastructure, the launch of the Self-Certification Pilot Program to accelerate resilient rebuilding, expanded wildfire recovery services for residents, and continued investments in emergency preparedness and climate resilience.
“When our office convened the Blue Ribbon Commission, we challenged some of the nation’s leading experts to help us rethink how Los Angeles County prepares for and recovers from wildfires and other climate-driven disasters,” said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath. “I’m proud that many of the Commission’s recommendations have already been implemented or are underway. From establishing the Disaster Recovery Rebuild Authority to creating new financing tools that will help communities rebuild stronger, this report demonstrates what is possible when bold ideas are matched with action.”
While 44 recommendations have been completed or entered their initial phase, fully implementing the Commission’s vision will require federal disaster assistance. As Los Angeles County continues its recovery, securing federal resources remains critical to rebuilding more resilient communities and preparing for future wildfires.
The report was prepared by the LA County Chief Sustainability Office in collaboration with more than a dozen County departments and outside partners, the report also identifies recommendations that require additional resources or action by state, federal, and regional partners to fully implement.
